Founded: 1985 Location: 268 West Broadway Avenue, Langley, OK Welcome to the Grand Lake Community Ministry (G.L.C.M.), a dedicated lay organization established in 1985 with the purpose of providing temporary assistance to individuals and families in need. Our mission is to offer help in Christian love, ensuring that assistance is given without any strings attached. In addition to material support, we provide an opportunity for individuals to receive spiritual guidance from ministers of participating churches. Services Offered G.L.C.M. extends its aid through the Blue House, where community members can access various resources: Clothing Assistance: We provide clothing for individuals of all ages, including special items such as layettes for newborns, along with diapers when supplies permit. Food Pantry: Our food pantry is open from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM on Tuesdays and Fridays, where qualifying families receive two bags of both non-perishable and perishable food. Families with more than four members may receive additional items based on their size. Utility Assistance: For those who meet income qualifications, we offer assistance with utility bills. Please note that we do not cover deposits or reconnect fees, and we are currently unable to assist with rent, house payments, telephone services, or fuel. Current Needs We rely on the generosity of our community to keep our services running. Will Rogers Memorial Rodeo in Vinita, OK, is the premier rodeo event held in the Southwest! This is a four-day event that is kicked off by the Annual Will Rogers Memorial Rodeo Parade on RT 66 in downtown Vinita. Every night of the rodeo is filled with action packed events from Girl's Barrel Racing, Bare Back Bronc Riding, Steer Roping, Bull Riding & Team Roping, and much much more!! Bring the family and enjoy an amazing night at the Will Rogers Memorial Rodeo in Vinita, OK. Our History Will Rogers was born in 1879, at a ranch house on the Verdigris River. The only towns that existed nearby were Vinita, Indian Territory (which later became Oklahoma), and Coffeyville, Kansas. After his mother died in 1890, Will was sent to several schools away from the ranch, but the one he grew to like the most was Willie Halsell College located in Vinita. He attended three terms from 1892, until 1895, and he never forgot the happy days he spent there or the friends he made. Years later, while attending a school reunion in 1934, Will Rogers told the Vinita folks, "Have a rodeo here next year and I'll come back." He returned that fall for the old-timer's parade, but on August 15, 1935, just days before the rodeo, Will Rogers and famed pilot Wiley Post were both tragically killed in a plane crash. It was decided that the Vinita rodeo would be held as a memorial to Vinita's cherished "son" Will Rogers, and it has been every year since. Our mission is to provide care, support, and a second chance for pets who find themselves without a home. No-Kill Rescue: As a no-kill shelter, we are dedicated to saving as many lives as possible. We are always in need of compassionate foster homes. If you have space in your home and love in your heart for animals, please reach out to us. We provide support with food whenever possible, and we cover any necessary medical expenses for the pets in your care. Why Foster a Dog? Fostering an animal can be one of the most rewarding experiences. By opening your home to a dog in need, you are not only helping the animal but also making a significant impact on the shelter's ability to take in more pets. Here’s how fostering benefits everyone involved: You free up space in the shelter for another animal in need. You provide the foster dog with time to prepare for adoption. You help the shelter gain valuable insights about the dog, ensuring they find the best home possible.
