Thanks to the contributions of local lake organizations, the town of Ketchum, and the airport's dedicated volunteers, including the Girlfriends of the Airport, the airport has undergone significant upgrades. With the addition of an asphalt runway, the airport now offers full-service facilities for both prop and jet aircraft, meeting the needs of aviators and visitors alike. The airport is a key gateway for travelers looking to visit the Grand Lake area, extending the region’s reach beyond the typical driving radius. By attracting visitors who would otherwise not have considered traveling to the area, the airport is helping to drive economic growth and tourism, with an estimated annual economic impact of $2.5 million. The official and annual reopening of Grand Lake, dubbed Welcome Back Weekend for over twenty years, The traditional Poker Run, an event that attracts nearly 400 participants in the event’s inaugural year, remains the backbone of one of the most popular off-season weekends ever unveiled on Oklahoma’s premier lake. What is Welcome Back Weekend? Welcome Back Weekend is an annual event celebrated at Grand Lake, OK. This event was started in March of 1992 by Terry Frost, the previous owner of the Cherokee Yacht Club. The weekend began with a poker run on Saturday and a showing of the hands-on Sunday. Grand Laker Terry Frost and the late Barbara Connor proposed incorporating a Chamber-sponsored “Casino Night,” which became an instant success. Memorial Options: Choose from laser-engraved urns or memorial stones to keep your pet’s memory alive. Engraving services are also available for a variety of materials, including leather, metal, and granite. Grief Counseling: We understand the impact of losing a pet and offer monthly grief counseling sessions led by a licensed therapist certified in pet loss therapy. These sessions are held on the second Saturday of each month and provide a supportive space for sharing feelings and memories. Pet Funeral Home & Chapel: Our chapel can accommodate up to 55 people, providing a serene space for memorial services or celebrations of your pet’s life. The chapel is also available for events or meetings, fostering a sense of community during times of sorrow. Viewing Rooms: Angel designed the viewing rooms to provide a comforting farewell for families. You can choose to have your pet brought from your vet’s office to the viewing room, allowing your family to grieve and say goodbye in a more personal setting. Pet siblings are also welcome to be part of this heartfelt goodbye. Pick-Up & Delivery Services: Angel’s offers complimentary pick-up from any veterinarian clinic within a 25-mile radius of Tulsa.
