June 23 Random Observations of The Grand Lake Bum
Summer is here – officially! According to the calendar, it arrived with high temperatures beginning with a “9” last Friday on what is typically referred to as “the longest day of the year.” That’s not true, by the way. I stayed up all day and all night just to make certain. Sure enough, it was the same length as all the other days – 24 hours. FYI.

For the second consecutive weekend, there is a concert on the water Saturday. Despite the outrageous wind, last weekend’s Rock the Dock concert in Check-In Bay drew lots of spectators who were as anxious to get on the water as they were to hear great music – and they did both! This weekend is no different. The much anticipated Grand Jam in Duck Creek (in front of Harbors View Marina) is Saturday from noon ‘til 6:00. Let’s hope for a little less water and a little less breeze!

Grand Jam isn’t the only event signaling a really busy week on the waters of Grand Lake, though. The High School Fishing World Final and National Championship Fishing Tournament has the lake covered with high school fishing competitors this week. The tournament runs through Saturday, which is the final day. Also on Saturday, amidst the hundreds of boats full of high-schoolers, the Grand Lake Sailing Club hosts a Peanut Regatta with a bunch of sailboats. What could possibly go wrong?

Some people are just a lot quicker and better than others with responses to others who complain about things without thinking them through. One of my favorites is a flight attendant for British Airways who received a complaint from a woman who said she was not comfortable with the lack of blinds in a Boeing 747 first class restroom that had a window. “Madam,” said the flight attendant, “If someone is clinging to the side of this aircraft at 35,000 feet, they’ve earned the view.”

Friday & Saturday, there is “Lawn-a-Thon” inflatable fun for the kids on The Anchor Lawn at Shangri-La (11:00-5:00). Saturday is another Peanut Regatta from Grand Lake Sailing Club and the big Grand Jam on-the-water concert at Safe Harbor Harbors View Marina in Duck Creek (12:00-6:00 p.m.). Saturday night is Country Music Night at Big Shots (9:00 p.m.). Next Wednesday, the holiday fun begins with Vinita Fireworks at Craig County Fairgrounds.

Understanding that grief is a personal journey, Angel’s offers a range of services to ease the burden during this challenging time. Our services include:
Pick-Up and Delivery: We provide convenient pick-up and delivery from your veterinarian's office or your home, making the process as smooth as possible.
Viewing Rooms: Our facility features two warm and inviting viewing rooms where families can say goodbye in a comforting atmosphere. Here, you can choose to have your pet euthanized in a peaceful setting, rather than in a sterile veterinarian's office.
Memorial Options: Choose from laser-engraved urns or memorial stones to keep your pet’s memory alive. Engraving services are also available for a variety of materials, including leather, metal, and granite.
Grief Counseling: We understand the impact of losing a pet and offer monthly grief counseling sessions led by a licensed therapist certified in pet loss therapy. These sessions are held on the second Saturday of each month and provide a supportive space for sharing feelings and memories.

When the time comes, you have the power to choose how to memorialize your pet. Whether through cremation, burial, or a memorial service, Angel’s will coordinate with any veterinarian to alleviate the stress of this difficult process. Our Services
Pet Crematory:
At Angel’s, we offer private cremations for pets of all sizes, conducted with dignity and respect. Our state-of-the-art facility allows families to witness the cremation if they wish. While it’s a difficult subject, we aim to provide a meaningful experience during such times. Cremation fees are based on your pet's weight; please contact us for detailed pricing.
Pet Funeral Home & Chapel:
Our chapel can accommodate up to 55 people, providing a serene space for memorial services or celebrations of your pet’s life. The chapel is also available for events or meetings, fostering a sense of community during times of sorrow.
Viewing Rooms:
Angel designed the viewing rooms to provide a comforting farewell for families. You can choose to have your pet brought from your vet’s office to the viewing room, allowing your family to grieve and say goodbye in a more personal setting. Pet siblings are also welcome to be part of this heartfelt goodbye.
Pick-Up & Delivery Services:
Angel’s offers complimentary pick-up from any veterinarian clinic within a 25-mile radius of Tulsa. For home removals, a fee of $35.00 applies. For pickups outside the 25-mile radius, a mileage fee of $1.50 per mile (one way) will be charged.
Laser Engraving Services:
In addition to urns and memorial stones, we provide engraving services for various items, allowing you to personalize your pet's memorial in a special way.

Bethesda Free Clinic
Opened: June 23, 2012
Since its inception on June 23, 2012, Bethesda Free Clinic has been a beacon of hope and support for the community. Sponsored by the First Baptist Church of Langley and supported by the Craig-Mayes Baptist Association, our mission is to share and demonstrate the message of Christ by uniting volunteers to help meet the spiritual, emotional, and healthcare needs of individuals at no cost to the patient.
A Vision Realized
The concept of Bethesda Free Clinic was envisioned over two years before opening by Dr. Pat Belford, a devoted member of the church. This initiative aligns seamlessly with the church’s vision of being a "Life Development Church," committed to enhancing the lives of those in the Langley community. Originally, the plan was to operate at least one Saturday a month, but through God's blessings and the generosity of medical personnel and volunteers, the clinic is proud to be open every Saturday, providing vital services to those in need.

At Bethesda Free Clinic, we focus on providing quality care for acute illnesses, including:

All services are provided completely free of charge, ensuring that everyone has access to the healthcare they need without the burden of financial stress.
Important Information
Childcare: Please note that the clinic does not provide childcare services.
Medications: The clinic does not maintain any medications, including narcotics. Consequently, we do not write prescriptions for controlled substances, narcotics, or pain medications. For your convenience, a list of drugs for which prescriptions will not be written is available at the clinic.
Resource Assistance: A Resource Director is available during clinic hours to assist clients in identifying additional services and resources that the clinic may not be able to provide. This includes helping individuals find the necessary support within the community for their specific needs.

Interested in Fostering? We are always in need of compassionate foster homes. If you have space in your home and love in your heart for animals, please reach out to us. We provide support with food whenever possible, and we cover any necessary medical expenses for the pets in your care.
Why Foster a Dog? Fostering an animal can be one of the most rewarding experiences. By opening your home to a dog in need, you are not only helping the animal but also making a significant impact on the shelter's ability to take in more pets. Here’s how fostering benefits everyone involved:
You free up space in the shelter for another animal in need.
You provide the foster dog with time to prepare for adoption.

Become a Member of MAA
Show your support by becoming a member of the Miami Animal Alliance! 100% of your annual membership fee will directly benefit the welfare of our sheltered animals. We strive to create an organization that you can take pride in being a part of. If, at any point, we do not meet your expectations, your prorated membership fee will be refunded.
As a member, you will be invited to all meetings and have the opportunity to vote on significant decisions regarding the organization. You can also run for Board offices and join committees.
