From the vibrant landscapes of Grand Lake to the intricate details of architecture, I have been fortunate to witness and capture the world in ways that celebrate both the grandeur of nature and the subtleties of human connection. With a lifelong passion for the outdoors and a growing eye for the artistic elements of life, I specialize in various types of photography that highlight the natural beauty of the world and the personalities of those within it. My Journey: From Adventure to Art Throughout my younger years, I immersed myself in outdoor activities such as off-road motorcycling, hang gliding, and boating on California’s Monterey Bay. Initially, I saw myself as an adventurer, someone focused on the thrill of the outdoors, rather than an artist. However, as I grew older, I started noticing the light, shapes, and patterns that others around me seemed to overlook. This new awareness led me to discover a passion for photography that I never anticipated. When I moved to Oklahoma and settled on the shores of Grand Lake, I gained the perfect environment for my newfound passion. With 60 miles of pristine freshwater at my doorstep, I regularly took my camera outdoors, capturing nature and wildlife in its endless variety. From that point on, nature and wildlife photography became my calling. Expanding My Lens: People, Homes, and Commercial Photography As I honed my skills, I also discovered the joy of capturing the essence of people. My background in counseling gave me a unique perspective on understanding personalities, allowing me to capture individuals in authentic, expressive ways. This skill set naturally evolved into capturing the beauty of homes and businesses through architectural and real estate photography. In addition to personal portraits and properties, I began to explore telling compelling stories through photos. One of my most beloved projects was The Secret Life of the Grand Lake Pelican, which gained popularity as a photo book. This led to the creation of another book, Jerry Ann’s Place, along with various photo collections paired with music and transitions, creating video-like productions that have been featured on local and national television. Will Rogers Memorial Rodeo in Vinita, OK, is the premier rodeo event held in the Southwest! This is a four-day event that is kicked off by the Annual Will Rogers Memorial Rodeo Parade on RT 66 in downtown Vinita. Every night of the rodeo is filled with action packed events from Girl's Barrel Racing, Bare Back Bronc Riding, Steer Roping, Bull Riding & Team Roping, and much much more!! Bring the family and enjoy an amazing night at the Will Rogers Memorial Rodeo in Vinita, OK. Our History Will Rogers was born in 1879, at a ranch house on the Verdigris River. The only towns that existed nearby were Vinita, Indian Territory (which later became Oklahoma), and Coffeyville, Kansas. After his mother died in 1890, Will was sent to several schools away from the ranch, but the one he grew to like the most was Willie Halsell College located in Vinita. He attended three terms from 1892, until 1895, and he never forgot the happy days he spent there or the friends he made. Years later, while attending a school reunion in 1934, Will Rogers told the Vinita folks, "Have a rodeo here next year and I'll come back." He returned that fall for the old-timer's parade, but on August 15, 1935, just days before the rodeo, Will Rogers and famed pilot Wiley Post were both tragically killed in a plane crash. It was decided that the Vinita rodeo would be held as a memorial to Vinita's cherished "son" Will Rogers, and it has been every year since. The official and annual reopening of Grand Lake, dubbed Welcome Back Weekend for over twenty years, The traditional Poker Run, an event that attracts nearly 400 participants in the event’s inaugural year, remains the backbone of one of the most popular off-season weekends ever unveiled on Oklahoma’s premier lake. What is Welcome Back Weekend? Welcome Back Weekend is an annual event celebrated at Grand Lake, OK. This event was started in March of 1992 by Terry Frost, the previous owner of the Cherokee Yacht Club. The weekend began with a poker run on Saturday and a showing of the hands-on Sunday. Grand Laker Terry Frost and the late Barbara Connor proposed incorporating a Chamber-sponsored “Casino Night,” which became an instant success. Welcome Back Weekend is to get you back on the lake so you can enjoy Grand Lake more of the year. Founded in 2015, SYNC (Spavinaw Youth & Neighborhood Center) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the educational, cultural, and social development of the youth in Spavinaw and its surrounding communities. SYNC was established in response to the challenges faced by the town of Spavinaw over the years, with the mission to provide support, resources, and opportunities for the next generation. Our Mission At SYNC, we aim to achieve several key goals: Youth Development: To promote the educational, cultural, physical, and social development of Spavinaw’s youth by offering educational and recreational services based on positive character-building practices. Community Engagement: To encourage community involvement by fostering neighborhood interest and positive relationships, creating an environment where youth and residents can work together to become successful in the Spavinaw community and, when applicable, their tribal communities. Veteran Support: To offer guidance and assistance to veterans in developing and filing claims, as well as acquiring services from the VA and other organizations that support veterans. Community Collaboration: To provide a conduit for collaboration among citizens, tribal entities, churches, businesses, and organizations within the community, working together to improve the city, the community, and the well-being of its residents.
