What was once a humble hayfield with only a few run-down hangars has transformed into South Grand Lake's vital transportation and economic hub. Today, the South Grand Lake Regional Airport stands as a testament to the hard work, determination, and community support that has turned a simple grass strip into a fully operational, state-of-the-art airport serving both personal and business aviation. Thanks to the contributions of local lake organizations, the town of Ketchum, and the airport's dedicated volunteers, including the Girlfriends of the Airport, the airport has undergone significant upgrades. With the addition of an asphalt runway, the airport now offers full-service facilities for both prop and jet aircraft, meeting the needs of aviators and visitors alike. The airport is a key gateway for travelers looking to visit the Grand Lake area, extending the region’s reach beyond the typical driving radius. By attracting visitors who would otherwise not have considered traveling to the area, the airport is helping to drive economic growth and tourism, with an estimated annual economic impact of $2.5 million. Future plans for the airport are even more exciting, with the development of new features that will make it an even more significant asset for the region. The amphitheater’s mission is clear: to tell "His story" — the story of the Bible, its characters, and the transformative power of faith. A Rich History of Powerful Productions Since its opening, Picture in Scripture has captivated over 225,000 visitors from all 50 states and 119 countries. The amphitheater’s first production, "The Man Who Ran", told the story of Jonah, Jesus, and the great fish. This production ran for 20 years and set the stage for future successes, including "The Elijah Factor", which brought the powerful story of the prophet Elijah to the stage. In 2017, "Damascus Road: Where Saul Becomes Paul, the Greatest Apostle of All Times" debuted, telling the story of Saul’s persecution of the early Church and his conversion on the road to Damascus. This production continues to be a central piece of the amphitheater’s offerings, drawing audiences every summer with its powerful narrative. An Unforgettable Theater Experience Each summer, Picture in Scripture Amphitheater stages an original Biblical production featuring a 60-80 person cast, local actors, exotic live animals, state-of-the-art surround sound, and special effects. The combination of drama, faith, and stunning visuals creates an unforgettable experience. The amphitheater is designed to enhance the spiritual journey of its guests, allowing them to witness Bible stories in a dramatic, immersive setting. A Family-Friendly Atmosphere Picture in Scripture is not just a theater, it is a place for families to gather and make memories. Before the show begins, visitors can enjoy a variety of family-friendly activities such as the petting zoo, where they can interact with Simon the camel, Yancy the yak, and other animals used in the productions. The zoo is open from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on performance nights. Guests can also enjoy a delicious dinner served in the pavilion, with options such as charbroiled hamburgers, grilled chicken, barbecue, and catfish. Meals are served from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and include a drink. The menu offers something for everyone, including a children’s plate with a hamburger, chicken sandwich, or hot dog. Will Rogers Memorial Rodeo in Vinita, OK, is the premier rodeo event held in the Southwest! This is a four-day event that is kicked off by the Annual Will Rogers Memorial Rodeo Parade on RT 66 in downtown Vinita. Every night of the rodeo is filled with action packed events from Girl's Barrel Racing, Bare Back Bronc Riding, Steer Roping, Bull Riding & Team Roping, and much much more!! Bring the family and enjoy an amazing night at the Will Rogers Memorial Rodeo in Vinita, OK. Our History Will Rogers was born in 1879, at a ranch house on the Verdigris River. The only towns that existed nearby were Vinita, Indian Territory (which later became Oklahoma), and Coffeyville, Kansas. After his mother died in 1890, Will was sent to several schools away from the ranch, but the one he grew to like the most was Willie Halsell College located in Vinita. He attended three terms from 1892, until 1895, and he never forgot the happy days he spent there or the friends he made. Years later, while attending a school reunion in 1934, Will Rogers told the Vinita folks, "Have a rodeo here next year and I'll come back." He returned that fall for the old-timer's parade, but on August 15, 1935, just days before the rodeo, Will Rogers and famed pilot Wiley Post were both tragically killed in a plane crash. It was decided that the Vinita rodeo would be held as a memorial to Vinita's cherished "son" Will Rogers, and it has been every year since. The Will Rogers Memorial Rodeo has become one of the most outstanding rodeos in the entire southwest. [read more]
