Our mission is to provide care, support, and a second chance for pets who find themselves without a home. We provide support with food whenever possible, and we cover any necessary medical expenses for the pets in your care. Why Foster a Dog? By opening your home to a dog in need, you are not only helping the animal but also making a significant impact on the shelter's ability to take in more pets. Sponsored by the First Baptist Church of Langley and supported by the Craig-Mayes Baptist Association, our mission is to share and demonstrate the message of Christ by uniting volunteers to help meet the spiritual, emotional, and healthcare needs of individuals at no cost to the patient. A Vision Realized The concept of Bethesda Free Clinic was envisioned over two years before opening by Dr. Pat Belford, a devoted member of the church. This initiative aligns seamlessly with the church’s vision of being a "Life Development Church," committed to enhancing the lives of those in the Langley community. Originally, the plan was to operate at least one Saturday a month, but through God's blessings and the generosity of medical personnel and volunteers, the clinic is proud to be open every Saturday, providing vital services to those in need. Will Rogers Memorial Rodeo in Vinita, OK, is the premier rodeo event held in the Southwest! This is a four-day event that is kicked off by the Annual Will Rogers Memorial Rodeo Parade on RT 66 in downtown Vinita. Every night of the rodeo is filled with action packed events from Girl's Barrel Racing, Bare Back Bronc Riding, Steer Roping, Bull Riding & Team Roping, and much much more!! Bring the family and enjoy an amazing night at the Will Rogers Memorial Rodeo in Vinita, OK. Our History Will Rogers was born in 1879, at a ranch house on the Verdigris River. The only towns that existed nearby were Vinita, Indian Territory (which later became Oklahoma), and Coffeyville, Kansas. After his mother died in 1890, Will was sent to several schools away from the ranch, but the one he grew to like the most was Willie Halsell College located in Vinita. He attended three terms from 1892, until 1895, and he never forgot the happy days he spent there or the friends he made. Years later, while attending a school reunion in 1934, Will Rogers told the Vinita folks, "Have a rodeo here next year and I'll come back." He returned that fall for the old-timer's parade, but on August 15, 1935, just days before the rodeo, Will Rogers and famed pilot Wiley Post were both tragically killed in a plane crash. It was decided that the Vinita rodeo would be held as a memorial to Vinita's cherished "son" Will Rogers, and it has been every year since. Founded in 2015, SYNC (Spavinaw Youth & Neighborhood Center) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the educational, cultural, and social development of the youth in Spavinaw and its surrounding communities. SYNC was established in response to the challenges faced by the town of Spavinaw over the years, with the mission to provide support, resources, and opportunities for the next generation. June 23 Random Observations of The Grand Lake Bum Summer is here – officially! According to the calendar, it arrived with high temperatures beginning with a “9” last Friday on what is typically referred to as “the longest day of the year.” That’s not true, by the way. I stayed up all day and all night just to make certain. Sure enough, it was the same length as all the other days – 24 hours. FYI. ***** For the second consecutive weekend, there is a concert on the water Saturday. Despite the outrageous wind, last weekend’s Rock the Dock concert in Check-In Bay drew lots of spectators who were as anxious to get on the water as they were to hear great music – and they did both! This weekend is no different. The much anticipated Grand Jam in Duck Creek (in front of Harbors View Marina) is Saturday from noon ‘til 6:00. Let’s hope for a little less water and a little less breeze! ***** Grand Jam isn’t the only event signaling a really busy week on the waters of Grand Lake, though. The High School Fishing World Final and National Championship Fishing Tournament has the lake covered with high school fishing competitors this week. The tournament runs through Saturday, which is the final day. Also on Saturday, amidst the hundreds of boats full of high-schoolers, the Grand Lake Sailing Club hosts a Peanut Regatta with a bunch of sailboats. What could possibly go wrong? ***** Some people are just a lot quicker and better than others with responses to others who complain about things without thinking them through.
